The best orchards for U-Pick Sea buckthorn berries
There are some pretty tasty and unusual fruits to be discovered all across the lovely countryside of Quebec.
So, you could say – “nous aimons les petits fruits!” The U-pick season in Quebec begins in June with a trip to the favourite strawberry field then ends in September with a stroll through a golden orchard bursting with sea buckthorn berries.
There will never be a better time to invest in your health. And visiting a beautiful sea buckthorn orchard during U-Pick season is a great way to celebrate the end of summer and start preparing your body for the cold ahead.
Here are are few of my favourite orchards that I hope you’ll enjoy exploring.

Jardins Zone Orange – On the outskirts of the Eastern Townships, Jardins Zone Orange offers pick-your-own berries as well as a sea buckthorn interpretation center.
The orchard is open to visitors for U-pick in August and September and they boast more than twenty different varieties of sea buckthorn. Of the fourteen female cultivars found at ZO, the ones I suggest you try most are – Chuyskaya, Jessel, Altaiskaya, Mary, Sunny, and Tatiana. These are by far the tastiest I’ve found to date.

Ferme Les Petites Écorces – You will find this lovely orchard located in Pointe-Fortune, on the way to Ottawa from Montreal. U-pick is open from August 8th to the 30th, on Saturdays and Sundays, and there are other delicious items to discover during your visit, including honey, and veggies. You will want to try their Sea buckthorn jelly, butter, and caramel spread.
Les Vergers Acadia – Located just outside of Saint-Jacques, this family-run orchard offers U-pick sea buckthorn berries from delicious Russian cultivars. Otradnaya being the variety of choice for pick-your-own sea buckthorn berries starting at the beginning of September.
