SEA BUCKTHORN SEED OIL SPECIFICATION
Sea buckthorn seed oil is obtained using an innovative production technology with supercritical fluid extraction. Extraction of supercritical fluid using carbon dioxide gas is an innovative method of extracting active substances. The product is obtained without chemical modification. The extraction method is gentle – all the good properties are retained in the final product, therefore, they have higher efficiencies than substances obtained by conventional extraction methods. Alpha-linolenic acid is an unsubstituted polyunsaturated (omega-3) fatty acid of vegetable origin that should be taken in with food. It is usually used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as the development of atherosclerosis and high blood pressure. Epidemiological studies have hypothesized that alpha-linolenic acid reduces risks of cardiovascular and neurological diseases, lowers cholesterol and prevents blood clots. The beneficial effect of reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease promotes nitric oxide synthesis thus improving endothelial function (inner layer of the vascular wall). Phytosterols have a very similar molecular structure to cholesterol when ingested phytosterols compete with cholesterol, so eating a diet rich in phytosterols reduces cholesterol. One of the most effective phytosterols is beta-sitosterol.
